Augmented Reality is all the buzz in the tech world right now. Aurasma is a mobile app that allows users to create their own augmented reality presentations.
Benefits:
- App is free to use and available on both iOS (phone or ipod/ipad) and Droid platforms.
- The 3D features are a big hit with students, and their interest is piqued in this app, providing essential engagement in the lesson at hand.
- "Auras" can be links to videos, other websites or photos, so there is flexibility in its use.
- Finished Auras can be set to private or public, depending on the amount of privacy needed.
- If using videos as the linked "aura," YouTube videos can be linked, providing options for original video creation or using existing video.
- Aurasma channels must be set to "public," and then users must follow your channel. Often, it is difficult to find and connect with the channels created, making student presentation difficult.
- Projects are easier if all "auras" are created on the same channel to offset this problem, but this makes creation cumbersome and limits the use of BYOD.
- Though there is a desktop interface, it is clunky and difficult to manage. The instructions in the PowerPoint below offer a guide in using this interface, but it is in Beta at best.
